With programs for 3 to 6 years, 6 to 11 years, teens and adults, there really is something for everyone. In addition to our very well established Taekwon-Do classes, we also teach Kickboxing and Self-Defence.

TAEKWON-DO

Taekwon-Do is a Korean Martial Art that was developed from Shotokan Karate and was born on the 11th April 1955. Rather like there being two styles of Rugby (League and Union) there are also two main styles of Taekwon-Do ("ITF" and "WTF"). We teach the original "ITF" version (which isn't what you see on the Olympics). Our chief Instructor is 5th dan black belt Mr Paul Adams. He has been teaching full time martial arts classes (predominantly Taekwon-Do) for 18 years. and recently spent fours years working as an assistant coach with the England National Squad.

He stepped down from the national team at the end of 2016 to ensure a bit more family time and also to pursue his dream of a full time academy. Students describe his teaching style as "Firm, but fair", with plenty of back up from either former or current national team members assisting him with his classes at all levels.

KICKBOXING

WAKO kickboxing rules are so close to the sparring rules of "ITF" Taekwon-Do, that many European and World Taekwon-Do Champions use the WAKO Kickboxing circuit as additional preparation for their International Competitions. As a result of this many Taekwon-Do fighters over the years have held European and World WAKO titles. So it's very easy for kickboxers to train alongside Taekwon-Do fighters. This is exactly what we do at Alton Martial Arts Academy. Great sessions and a great way to get fit too.

SELF-DEFENCE

After attending several seminars over the years LEARN TKD's Chief Instructor Mr Paul Adams, decided to qualify as a "Tactical Edge" Instructor. Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing can be very sport orientated, but Tactical Edge isn't in the same mould. No foreign terminology, no competitions, just combat tested, no nonsense "streetwise" self-defence. The classes commence with unarmed defence against both armed and unarmed attackers, but progress to stick, knife and improvised weapons training. These classes are currently only taught to adults and junior black belts, and as with all of our programs, but especially with Tactical Edge, we reserve the right to refuse tuition.
